And Now For Even More Fun for Kids with 3 Contests (1 application per child)
Yip! Yip! We are continuing our tradition of Beverly Cleary inspired writing and art contests from previous years with a lovely selection of prizes. Write your story and turn it in online or to the local events. Prizes for Yamhill County and for writers at large in all of Oregon and the US contingent States! Send us your story in April or May! Be BRAVE! Write your story today!
Prizes include: Remote Control Cars, t-shirts, books, art supplies and more! (Please give us your t-shirt size so we can use for prizes.)
This year we have two separate writing contests and two art contests. Because we love kids' writing and ART!
Meanwhile, here are the instructions for this year starting with one of the writing contests with a downloadable form underneath. Just copy and paste it into a Word document if you like.:

Beverly Cleary created characters like Ramona the brave. Did you know that Yamhill was one of the last stagecoach stops on the Oregon Trail before Portland? The trail from the coast at Tillamook over the Trask Mountain Road to Yamhill was considered, “THE MOST AWFUL RIDE IN THE WORLD!” Write a story about a character traveling by stagecoach over this road to Yamhill.
Think about:
What were the dangers?
What went wrong?
How could a character be brave on this ride?
Theme: A brave ride.
Make a list of ideas about being brave on the Oregon Trail and traveling over a horribly steep road in a stagecoach to reach paradise, AKA Yamhill, OR.
